Online seminar “UN Sustainable Development Goals in Universitites” (29 April 2021, 11.00-13.30 EEST (Riga))

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal
protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.
Universities has crucial role in the achievement of the SDGs as society can ensure sustainable development via education, research and innovation. It is vital to understand how universities can effectively use SDGs in their everyday activities.

The seminar main goals are:

  • To learn national approaches and strategies
  • To study the successful cases in research, teaching and management;
  • To understand the role of community cooperation;
  • To measure possible impact on international recognition and position in rankings (i.e. Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.

Date: 29 April 2021, 11.00-13.30 EEST (Riga).
Timing and outline: 2,5 hours with three keynotes and panel discussion.

The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Northern Europe links knowledge to action in order for society to implement the SDGs and the Paris Climate Agreement. The network connects Nordic knowledge institutions to localize, teach and promote the SDGs, and support their implementation by generating, applying and disseminating knowledge.

Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences recently adopted new very ambitious Sustainable Development and Responsibility Program “Sustainable, Responsible and Carbon-Neutral University of Applied Sciences.”
